JOHN ZAWADA April 6, 1943 - April 22, 2009 With heavy hearts we sadly announce the passing of John Zawada on April 22, 2009 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, following a brief illness. John is survived by his loving wife and best friend Olga, son Sean (Shawna) of Calgary, son Scott of Sacramento, CA, daughter Audra and cherished grandson Joshua of Calgary, as well as his brother Doug (Barb) of Oakbank, MB. John was predeceased by his parents Bill and Mary Zawada, as well as sister Olga Glubka. He leaves to mourn his memory many cherished uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and the many dear friends with whom he crossed paths throughout his life. John was born in Selkirk, MB where he attended school, met the love of his life Olga and welcomed his first son Sean. Scott was soon to follow, with daughter Audra being born in Ottawa where John worked for Pilkington Glass. This employment then took the Zawada family to Calgary, where they laid down roots and John continued in the glass/construction industry through self-employment. Years of contract work took him to the US, as well as overseas to such places as Cypress, Taipei, United Arab Emirates and Egypt, to name just a few. Upon returning home, John enjoyed working for Southland and driving school bus for children he took great pride in getting to and from school safely, as well as providing charter transportation for many different groups and organizations. To honour his wishes, a Celebration of John's Life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at The Lake at Heritage Pointe (Beach Club), 4 Heritage Lake Blvd., DeWinton, AB. An Open House for family and friends to share in this Celebration will begin at 6:30 pm. Our deepest thanks to Cardiac Units 91 and 92 at the Foothills Hospital, and especially Dr. William Kidd, for the wonderful care given John. In his memory and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foothills Hospital, in care of Cardiac Units - 9th Floor, 1403-29th St. NW, Calgary, AB T2N 2T9 Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements, 204-482-3271.
