Despite many health complications, her death was tranquil. Nena was 84 and we already miss her. Nena will be remembered as a loving mother, a career woman, and a Second World War Veteran with undying dedication to the Services and mankind. She was a very supportive daughter to her deceased parents, Tranquilino and Patricia Acierto. Nena is survived by her Children: Horacio (Carol), Patricia (Pablo Jr.) and Hernando (Beth); Grandchildren: Farrah (Jhun), Golda, Tiffany (Arnold), Adonis, Patrick, Don Allen, Desiree, Christopher, Paulo, April and Felix Erdie; Great-Grandchildren: Malakai, Silas, Draiven, Memphis and Isaiah and numerous nephews and nieces. Lola Nena's life was colourful and meaningful. Born in Pangasinan, Philippines on August, 26, 1924, Nena was the second of seven children (Pidiong, Levi, Isang, Willy, Chisty and Baby). Nena was married on July 27, 1946 to the late Major Dominador Eustaquio. Lola was a 'smart-cookie' educated in Manila at CEU (ETC), NU(BS Ed) and JASU (MA Psycho). She later finished a course in Reflexology in Winnipeg. In her lifetime, Second World War Liason Staff Sgt. Filomena Acierto was proud First Aider of the Philippine National Defence Medical Core. She was a school teacher and college instructor in Manila for 27 years, involved with Manitoba's Filipino Language course and extra high school credit testing, and a Toastmaster (Sunshiners). Lola volunteered as a teacher's aid and a literacy and math tutor. She was a member of Lion's Day Club, ILR Community Club, Philippine Veteran's Association and the Royal Canadian Legion. A lifetime highlight was moving to Canada in July 1980. Her motto, the Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal gives us peace at this time. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Deer Lodge Chronic Respiratory Unit (Lodge 4) for their unrelenting care and humour that made the last years of Filomena's life enjoyable and pleasant. We also thank her previous care providers from the Grace, St. Boniface and Seven Oaks Hospitals as well as from WRHA Home Care. On Lola's behalf, we thank the labours of love shown by our aunt Gina (Bobbie), numerous relatives and the Iglesia Ni Cristo ministers, deacons, deaconesses and congregation.
