WILLIAM JOSEPH BRODERICK December 8, 1921 April 27, 2009 In the wee hours of the morning, with his loving wife by his side, Bill Broderick died at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba after a long battle with cancer. Left to mourn his passing is his partner of 55 years Peggy, their seven children; Pauline (Peter), Al (Lynda), Laura, Mary, Karl (Susan) Annette (Danny), Siobhan (Andy); their grandchildren, Ashley (Rod), Sabrina (Tommy), William, Patrick, Tia, Brody, Landon and Tyson and great-grandchildren Liam and Jade; nephew George (Yoli), Daniel and Paula their adopted son Garnet; good friend Jim who was there through thick and thin and numerous family members scattered around the globe. William, Joseph was born in the town of Moate, County Westmeath, Ireland. He worked in the Scottish shipyards during the war and in the family bakery in Dublin for the years after. He met the love of his life there and they were married February 3, 1953. With their young family, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Transcona where they were active members of the community. He had a lifelong interest in politics. His strong sense of social justice was lived in daily action and communicated to all who listened. Bill was a master baker. He was an artisan whose wares were greatly valued by the neighborhood. Many the night was passed around the kitchen table with a cup of tea and a loaf of fresh baked bread drawing all and sundry. He was a storyteller. Upon his retirement, he began to write a family history that took him 20 years to complete. He started art school at 73 and entered cyber world in his 80s. He never stopped learning. He loved to work with his hands and took special pride in using re-claimed materials. Bill loved to dance. He could recite long verses of poetry by memory. He spoke Latin and Gaelic. He sang out loud. He was a man who loved life and valued every moment he was given. His light will be missed by all who loved him. The family wishes to extend their grateful appreciation to the angels in Riverview palliative care whose compassion brought peace to our father's final days. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at The Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke in Transcona, a reception will follow in the parish hall.
