OTTO JACOB WIENS 1924 - 2009 With his loving family by his side Otto passed away peacefully on February 18, 2009 at Deer Lodge Centre after a very lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Otto was born in Hanover, Saskatchewan to Susanna and Jacob Wiens. The family later moved to Drake, Saskatchewan where Ott graduated from Drake High School in June 1942. In 1943 Ott joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Regina, Saskatchewan. He trained in Esguimalt, BC, and then served overseas and returned home in October 1945. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Commerce, he joined the Bank of Commerce in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1951. The bank later became the CIBC. Otto had a long and enjoyable career with the bank and very much enjoyed the financial world and all the people he worked with as well as the clients of the bank. After retirement in 1984 Otto and Jean enjoyed traveling. He loved to spend time with his family and especially his two grandchildren Lisa and Scott. Otto loved to play golf. Thanks to Jessie and Charlie Johnson for the many happy rounds of golf the four of us played together. Great memories! Some courses even allowed us to come back. Many hours were spent working around the house and yard. He loved to see spring and watch the garden grow. Our family would like to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre. Your love and compassion shown to Ott and our family made everything so much easier. A special thanks to T-3 where Ott spent 9 and one half years when he resided at Deer Lodge, you were great and thanks for all the fun we had together. Otto is survived by his loving wife (Clara) Jean; daughter Cori Knight and son-in-law Rob; two grandchildren, Lisa Kemp and Scott Knight. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Con, Bill, Ed and Paul. We love you and miss you very much. A celebration of life will be held at Deer Lodge Centre (Auditorium on the main floor) on Friday, May 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was very saddened to hear of Ott's passing. I was a credit officer, regional office, CIBC, Winnipeg from June, 1969 to June, 1970. Ott's careful and patient guidance combined with a sense of humour was instrumental in carrying me through a difficult time in coping with my own father's illness. I admired his analytical and athletic abilities. He was a good and kind man. - Posted by: Ken Hibbert (Co-Worker) on: Jun 03, 2009
