ROY WILLIAM DAVIES Courageously, on May 1, 2009, at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Roy William Davies was called Home. Roy was predeceased by his father E. Benjamin F. Davies in 1999 and his father-in-law Jacob B. Martens in 2006. Roy is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Marcia; his sons Jason (Dawn Robertson) Davies and Owen Davies, and his granddaughters Michelle Robertson and Ainsley Davies. Roy is also lovingly survived by his mother Betty H. Davies; siblings, Corrine (Dave) Blackmore, Diane (Allan) Rushworth, Pamela Bewza-Kubicz, Brian (Joanne) Davies, Glen (Karen Clearwater) Davies; mother-in-law Gerty Martens; sister-in-law Marilyn (Rob) Kroeker; and also by his nieces and nephews, Danielle Daigle, Jennifer Bewza, Kristianne Davies, Melissa Davies, Alina Kubicz, Lewis (Charissa Dyck) Daigle, Kyle Rushworth, Ian (Jocelyn) Rushworth, Shaun Davies, Thomas Bewza, Aidan Davies, Liam Davies, Jared Kroeker and Ben Kroeker. Roy was born on New Year's Day in 1956, was baptized on April 15, 1956 in St. Charles United Church, and grew up on Isbister Street, attending John Taylor Collegiate in Winnipeg. After high school, Roy set out to Thunder Bay and married and had two sons, Jason Arthur in 1981 and Owen William in 1984. Here he found his love for Diamond Drilling and took pride in the skill he learned and mastered. In 1990, Roy moved back to Winnipeg with Jason and he was happy to be together again with his siblings and parents. It was during this time that Roy operated his successful Need a Man? small home-repair business which came naturally to him. Roy also rejoined the Boy Scouts as a leader and enjoyed his time with Jason and all of the boys he met through the program and especially the camp-outs. In 1994, Roy and Marci went to a Rolling Stones concert together as friends, and were married fourteen months later on Thanksgiving Sunday 1995 in St. Andrew's River Heights United Church. Roy was elated when in 1996, Owen came to live in Winnipeg, and he again had both of his boys with him. He enjoyed his time with the Senior Church Choir at St. Andrew's, and stole the show in 2000 with his rendition of Tie a Yellow Ribbon at the Centennial Concert. In 2004, Roy was thrilled to find work as a Diamond Driller again, and proudly worked all over North America during his career. He ended his career, happy to be home in Manitoba, with Rodren Drilling Ltd. Roy proudly became known as Grandad with the family addition of Michelle in 2006 and Ainsley in 2007. In 2008, with a diagnosis of cancer at the base of the tongue, Roy valiantly fought this wicked disease, and was courageous with each treatment and procedure he endured. He faced the terminal diagnosis in 2009 with that same courage and determination, and was often the comforter to those who had come to comfort him. Roy was passionate and dedicated about many things including music, which led him to his career of owning his own disc-jockey music service. He took special effort to find and play music that would ensure the audience would enjoy and appreciate. It was not unusual for Roy to spend many hours listening and researching for the ideally appropriate song or disc of music to express how he felt about a person or situation ensuring the selection was perfect. He had great pride to present these gifts of music to family and friends, and he eagerly awaited their always-elated response. Roy had a profound effect on everyone he met by making them laugh, fixing an item in need of repair, giving a gift of music, and most of all, by making everyone feel important. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Rev. 21:4 Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street (at Kingsway) officiated by Rev. Dr. W. T. Hidichuk. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted at the Never Alone Foundation, 1465 Maroons Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 0L6, (204) 779-2441 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3, (204) 982-2041.
