ALFRED LOEWEN Peacefully, with his wife of 66 years by his side, Alfred passed away in the early morning of May 6, 2009 at the age of 94. Alf grew up in Silberfeld, Manitoba, the oldest of nine children. He lived most of his adult life in Gretna. In his early years he was a salesperson for Dodge/Chrysler and John Deere vehicles and implements. Later he operated a grain buying and feed mill business. Dad is remembered as a deeply faithful person, who built his life around church, faith, family and work. He had a great interest in current and political affairs, and felt a strong responsibility to make the world a better place. He ran for political office, served on local and national church boards, held office as a school trustee and volunteered in many other capacities. Alf is lovingly remembered by his wife Susie; his six children Maureen Aubry (Gerry), Garry (Teri), Jan Wiebe (Ray), Ted (Sharryl), Don (Donna), and Glen (Roxanne); 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; his brother Peter and sisters, Tina Letkeman (Jake), Gertrude Heinrichs (Jake) and Helen Thorpe (Ralph). He is predeceased by three brothers and one sister. The family would like to thank Dr. Kliewer and the wonderful staff of Altona Hospital and Eastview Place, who offered such caring support during Dad's final months. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Mennonite Bergthaler Church. In lieu of flowers friends may consider donating to the Mennonite Collegiate Institute or the Arthritis Society. Arrangements entrusted to: WIEBE FUNERAL HOME (ALTONA) LTD. 204-324-5404

  • I remember so much about grandpa, from watching him get ready to meet with friends for coffee wishing I could go with him, to his tight hugs, to how loving he was. I miss him so much. Love you grandpa - Posted by: Steph (Granddaughter) on: Dec 29, 2012
