EVA-MARIA BARMEIER May 16, 1949 - May 8, 2009 Early Friday morning Eva passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, with her two sons and husband by her side. Eva, a loving mother and wife fought a long and hard battle with inflammatory breast cancer. She is survived and will be missed dearly by her two sons Marcus (Melodie) and Norm, husband Will and mother-in-law Johanna. For her family, Eva was a symbol of strength and positive energy. When times were tough she always found a way to give her family strength. A typical Berliner, Eva knew how to enjoy the great times and push through the hard ones with grace and dignity. She was an incredibly hard working woman, serving almost 30 years as a teacher and six years as a real estate agent. Eva was a passionate teacher developing new materials for her classes every year. Students and parents loved her and the Manitoba Department of Education commissioned her to develop textbooks and teaching units in the German-English Bilingual Program. One of her special interests was to develop partner-school programs with other countries. She has taken countless groups of students abroad to foster and develop international cooperation between the young people of this world. An avid downhill and cross country skier, Eva organized extracurricular cross country ski lessons for the students at her school during the winter. In the summer she coordinated, trained and raced with her dragon boat team. The family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital where Eva spent the last month. A memorial service will be held privately by her family. An open celebration of Eva's Life will be held and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
