CHARLES FRANKELSON Sadly, after fighting the good fight, Charles Frankelson, born September 14, 1918, in Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital, May 6, 2009 with his family at his bedside. Charles was the last surviving of five children born to Max and Frieda Frankelson. He was predeceased by his loving son, Dr. Elliott Frankelson, of Vancouver; sisters Ida Kay, Sylvia Horowitz, Beatrice Goldberg, and brother Joey Frankelson. He is survived by his adoring wife of almost 49 years, Gertie; children Jack Buckwold (June) and Marly Zaslov (Murray); grandchildren Jarad Buckwold and Anrea Zaslov (Qam Haider) of Winnipeg; Shannon Aceman and great-grandson Ryan Aceman of Vancouver; Mark Frankelson of Kamloops, BC, Shauna Frankelson of Vancouver, BC and many nieces and nephews, both in Canada and the USA, who kept in regular contract with their Uncle Charlie. Charlie began his career as a film distributor for Warner Brothers Films; he then joined London Life where he was a highly energetic and successful salesman for over 30 years. He was a wonderful storyteller, and would regale family and friends with endless stories about his early years in north-end Winnipeg, his travels in Canada and the United States, and his time spent in the Army during the Second World War. He was an avid golfer, a YMHA member, and a natty dresser in his prime. Many of his favourite times were spent with Gertie and family and friends in southern California. Being able to participate in his great-grandson's Bar Mitzvah last November was an occasion of great joy to him. Charlie was a kind, generous, gregarious and charitable man, who took time to work hard to try to make the world a better place. It will be a little darker without him. The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses on the 3rd Floor of Grace Hospital for their sensitivity and care during Charlie's final weeks. Graveside service was held Friday, May 8, 2009.
