GRACE VERLA MCSWEENEY It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Grace McSweeney on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 90 years. Remaining to forever cherish Grace's memory are her daughter Gail (Richard Dromereski); and sisters, Rose Duncan and Betty Sobkowich (Vic); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1994. Grace attended Mulvey and Gordon Bell Schools and as an enterprising young lady she posed for Bridgens and modeled clothing that were used in the Eaton's catalogues. She worked at the Belgan Shop on Portage Avenue selling women's clothes following that time to work at Smith Art, here she used her artistic skills to advise clients on picture framing and various art works. Horseback riding was her passion second only to her love for dogs and cats which she collected whatever strays she found. Doing crossword puzzles and reading mystery novels during lunch hours at Grant Park Zellers became a common routine with Grace. Family dinners usually ended with a card game called 31, complete with much laughter. Grace loved a good card game. Grace's funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grace's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3.
