CHERYL DAWN GREEN-MCKIE After a courageous battle with cancer it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Green-McKie, a resident of Kenora, on May 8, 2009 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Gary; children Rebecca, Sean (Jenna), Pamela and Abbie; and granddaughter Koralie Cheryl McKie who was born the night before Cheryl passed on and this news brought her absolute joy. She is also survived by her mother Ferne Green, brother Kerry (Karen) their children Hannah and Rachel Green; sister Colleen (Kelly) their children Andrea and Quinton Tomalin. Father-in-law Bill (Nonie) McKie, brothers-in-law Rocky (Lorrie), Roy (Susan) and Gordon (Jennifer) McKie and their families. She will also be missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cheryl was predeceased by her father Lloyd Green and Gary's mother Vi McKie. Cheryl was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on October 25, 1961. Upon graduation from the U. of M. she moved to Kenora in 1984 to work as a social worker with the Infant Development Program. She was employed by the Kenora-Patricia Child and Family Services at the time of her passing. She met the love of her life Gary in 1985 and they were married on July 23, 1988. She immediately accepted Gary's children into her life and was the most amazing Mom to them. She later had her own two daughters and she always said she could not imagine her life without her children. Cheryl participated in many activities such as ringette, hockey, baseball, curling, 4-H, coaching, snowmobiling with Gary, hiking and boating. She especially enjoyed challenging family and friends to play board games or cards. Her true passion was gardening and every summer her yard was filled with beautiful flowers that she loved to share with colleagues and friends. Cheryl was a gracious and compassionate woman who always put others before herself. She was a special gift to those who knew her and we all feel honoured to have had her in our lives. A Celebration of Cheryl's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United Church on Saturday May 16, 2009. If friends so desire, donations in honour of Cheryl may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lake of the Woods District Hospital Palliative Care. The family would like to thank Dr. Beveridge, Dr. Lotocki, Dr. Daly and all of their staff. Online condolences may be made at www.mem.com
