Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBETTY MCMILLAN (1921-2009) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty McMillan at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on Saturday, May 9, 2009. Betty was born in Prince Albert, SK to Peter and Mabel Bright on February 13, 1921. She joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps in 1942 and served overseas during the Second World War. She moved to Toronto after the war where she met Angus McMillan. They were married in 1957 and daughter Margaret was born a year later. They moved to Selkirk in 1964. Betty was a long-time employee of the Selkirk Mental Health Centre where she worked as secretary to the administrator, medical directors and medical staff. She also served as secretary to the accreditation committee and was highly instrumental in assisting them to achieve accreditation status for many years. After retirement, she joined other former staff as a member of the SMHC Archival Collection Inc. team to catalogue and preserve the history of the centre. She enjoyed many years of active retirement and the companionship of her cat Fanny, until failing health forced her to move to Middlechurch Home in January this year. Betty was predeceased by Angus in 2003, sisters Marguerite and Grace; brother Peter. She will be forever loved and remembered by daughter Margaret; nieces Betty (Dan), Agnes; nephew John (Valerie) and their families; Don Guenther, Anthony Guenther; Marie, Brian, Evan, Ian and Grant Surridge as well as extended family and friends, old and new. Please join us at St. Clements Anglican Church Hall on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to celebrate a life well lived. Donations, if desired, can be made to the Selkirk Adult Day Program c/o IRHA, 5000 Eaton Avenue, R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
