HERBERT SINGLETON It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Herb Singleton, on May 11, 2009 at Concordia Hospital. We will forever love and miss you, your loving wife of 63 years Helen; son John; daughter-in-law Darlene; grandchildren Shauna and Scott. He was predeceased by his brother, two sisters and parents Dr. Harold Singleton and Evelyn Singleton. Herb was born in Roleau, Saskatchewan on April 14, 1915. He received his education in Regina at Lutheran College and then went to Father Murray's College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. After a short time with the R.C.A.F., he joined the R.C.M.P. in 1940 in Regina and was with them for 29 years. Herb was a proud member of the R.C.M.P. and served in various posts which included Winnipeg, Kenora, Beausejour, Carmen, Hodgson, Winnipeg Beach, Selkirk, Fort William, Fort Frances, Clear Lake, Charleswood and Thompson. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Winnipeg subdivision when he retired in May 1969. After taking a summer off, he realized retirement was not for him and he obtained a job with the Law Courts. In January of 1973, Herb was appointed to the position of Chief Liquor Inspector for the Province of Manitoba, he was very honoured to serve this position. Herb married a Beausejour girl named Helen and they spent a wonderful 63 years together. His greatest passion in life was his game of golf. He belonged to the Wildwood Club for many years and spent most days from March to November on the course, with many of his friends. During the winter months he was an avid swimmer at the Pan Am Pool. Herb was a well respected friend to many, known for his distinctive smile that lit up the room, his gift of laughter and his compassion for all mankind. He was a committed husband, father, grandfather and friend. We will all remember him as the Gentleman of the old school.
