JAMES (JIM) DOUGLAS HICKS September 10, 1953 - May 12, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Jim. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Sharon Gurney; his two children, Leah and Calvin; brother Dave (Gail); sister Betty-Anne (Norm); nieces Deanna (Jeff) and Krista; nephews Chris (Leslie) and Ryan (Grace); brother-in-law David (Marilyn) and numerous extended family, friends, colleagues, and his golden retriever Nikki. Jim was born and raised in High Bluff and attended high school in Portage La Prairie. He attained his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Winnipeg. He spent the majority of his career as a professional agronomist, soil specialist and manager of an environmental consulting firm. Despite his demanding career, Jim always found balance between being a dedicated employee and a committed father and husband. Jim was passionate about life. Spending time at his cottage at Granite Lake, travelling, and enjoying time with his friends and family were three of his favourite things in life. The family would like to thank both CancerCare and the Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to our family and friends who provided such loving support during this past year. The Service and luncheon will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. A graveside service will follow at McKenzie Cemetery near High Bluff, MB (NE of Portage la Prairie) at 2:30 p.m. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to Riverview Health Centre.
