Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL KUSHLIAK Peacefully, on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, Michael passed away at Selkirk General Hospital with his loving wife Sonia by his side. Also left to mourn are his children, Helen (Dr. Garnette) Sutherland, Michael (Alexandra), adoring grandchildren, Christina, Catherine, Sophia, and Andrij, and numerous relatives in Ukraine. Michael was born on September 19, 1918, in Troitska, Ukraine, to Serhij and Oksana. After completing his university education in Ukraine, he was the principal of a Ukrainian school in Germany. Following two years as an Electrical Engineer in Brazil, he moved to Selkirk, Manitoba with his parents to marry the love of his life, Sonia. There, he established and operated Radio TV Clinic for over 30 years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary the Protectress Sobor Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as well as the Ukrainian Benevolent Brotherhood of St. Andrew. His memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of his family for his unconditional love and devotion. He was a historian with a unique perspective on world events. His hobbies included reading, writing, poetry, and painting. His gentle wit, encouragement, and wisdom will be sorely missed. Heartfelt thanks to Drs. Demsas, Zacharias, and Junaid, Jeff Hammel and the nursing staff of Selkirk General Hospital, and Home Care, for their professionalism, compassion, and kindness. Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to our many beloved friends and extended family members, and the congregation of St. Mary the Protectress Sobor for their overwhelming love and support. Pallbearers will be Rod Noseworthy, Tom Ostry, John Anderson, Andrij Senchuk, Yarko Petryshyn, Andrij Balan. Honourary pallbearers include Vasyl Balan, Bruce Okrainec, Roman Zajcew, Bohdan Zajcew, Orest Zajcew, Thomas Anderson, Robert Boresky and John Pawluk. Prayers (Panachyda) will be sung on Monday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Sobor, 820 Burrows Avenue, with coffee to follow. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Fathers R. Stefanyshyn, J. Buciora, and A. Harkavyi officiating.
