CATHERINE LOUISE SPALDING (nee Clarke) It's with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Catherine Spalding, on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Kae was born on November 12, 1915 in the Stonewall District. She married Norm Spalding and they moved to Gladstone for several years. Norm took a position in Customs and they moved to Emerson with their daughter Pam. The family later moved back to Gladstone. After Norm passed away Kae settled in Winnipeg on Grant Avenue where she lived until her death. Kae worked for the Bank of Montreal in Gladstone and at the main branch on Portage and Main in Winnipeg for 23 years. Kae enjoyed and was involved in all her grandchildren's activities. She made sure that all were able to swim, having taken them to swimming lessons. It gave her great pleasure to enjoy her great-grandchildren's birthday parties. Kae enjoyed watching sports on TV, curling, hockey or football it didn't matter. Kae loved to play bridge a couple of time a week with her friends and enjoyed beating Pam at Scrabble. Kae was predeceased by her husband and father in 1964 and later by her mother, and sisters Isabel Will, Jessie Matthewson and granddaughter Alana. She is survived by her daughter Pam (Allan), grandsons Mark (Laurie) of Ste. Anne, Jeff of Winnipeg and granddaughter Kym (Kevin) of Morden, four great-grandchildren Sydney, Veronica, McKay and Odin, brother-in-law Doug Spalding and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank special friend Mae who was always there for Kae, making sure that she got to her appointments and just driving her places. We would also like to thank the Winnipeg Ambulance Service, the doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for the loving and expert care that they gave Mom. As per Kae's wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has already taken place and there will be a private family burial in Gladstone at a later date. We knew we could not keep you forever but we will love you forever MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Pam and family I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Our Moms were such good and loyal freinds for so many years. I still miss my Mom so much, it is hard to believe it has been five years this July. I truly know how you feel at this time. Time does make it easier but the missing is always there!!! I will miss seeing your Mom this summer but am sure my Mother and her are having a cup of tea and enjoying each other's company as always.
