JOHN J. FRIESEN With profound sadness we announce the passing of an extraordinary man. John died peacefully surrounded by his family at his side in his 57th year on May 18, 2009 after a vigilant fight against cancer. Beloved husband of Lorna for 31 years; deeply loved father of Kristin (Kevin) and Kurtis (Chelsea); adoring grandfather of his little sunshine, Danica; son of Helen; and brother of Ingrid (John). He is also survived by mother-in-law Nettie Toews; brothers-in-law, Ray (Terry), Larry (Holly); sister-in-law Valerie (Tim); nieces, Emily, Dayna (Will), Jaime, Alyssa and Kiana; nephews, McKinley, Corey and Stephen; grand-nephews, Silas and Cooper. John was predeceased by his Pop David and father-in-law Peter. John was born in Darmstadt, Germany on November 1, 1951. He moved to Canada in 1953 with his Mother and Oma, where they settled in Winnipeg. John met Lorna in 1976 and they were married on September 10, 1977. Together John and Lorna had many dreams, and during the 31 years of marriage were very fortunate to fulfill them. John's dream of cottage life became a reality in 1991 with a lake front cottage at Brereton Lake, a place which soon became the second family home. This is where John loved to rise early, enjoy the peace, watch the sun rise and settle in for a new day. John began his career in Real Estate in 1987. His love of his work soon became evident by the number of people he worked with, and the personal relationships built during his career. His memory will be forever cherished in his family for his unconditional love, his passion for life, his strength and his positive outlook. John will be dearly missed by many, family and friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to our family and friends who have walked this journey with us. The compassion, caring, kindness, visits and help we have received have made us feel blessed in so many ways. Thank you. A memorial service for John will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 11:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
