DR. HISASHI FURUIYE Dr. Hishashi Furuiye, beloved husband of Kirsti of Victoria, BC, passed away at Foothills Hospital, Calgary, AB on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the age of 82 years, while attending a Japanese singing concert in Lethbridge, AB. He is also survived by his brothers, Takashi and Makoto and their families and other relatives in Japan, and his in-laws in Toronto and Finland. Hisashi is predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Kazuo Furuiye. He was born in Kumamoto, Japan on June 10, 1926. Hisashi (Hashi) graduated from Kumamoto National Medical School in 1954 and became an Obstetrician and Gynecologist on June 2, 1958 and received DSc of Medicine in 1959. Later that year he arrived in New York, U.S.A. to specialize in Anesthesia and continued it in Winnipeg, MB, graduating in 1967, becoming later an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesia at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB. Hashi retired in 2000 and later practiced part-time in Misericordia Hospital, MB and in Victoria, BC. His hobbies were many, black belt in judo at the University of Kumamoto, and Kendo in Winnipeg. He loved to scull at the summer cottage and cross country ski with Kirsti. He loved classical music and Japanese folk songs. Traveling brought great enjoyment to him in many continents, especially his birth country of Japan. He will be greatly missed by all of us. A Memorial Service will be held at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470-40 Street South, Lethbridge, on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Yasuo Izumi officiating. Cremation. Flowers and koden are gratefully declined. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Hashi's memory to the charity of one's choice, or to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Department of Anesthesia, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9.
