ANNA HAMM As the sun rose on Sunday, May 24, 2009, our beloved Mom, Oma and Great grandmother gently slipped into the loving arms of her Saviour and after her 93 year pilgrimage on this earth, is resting peacefully. Mom was born April 20, 1916 in Osterwick, Chortitza (Ukraine) to Wilhelm Wiens and Sarah Klassen. Her life was not an easy one, starting to work at the age of 12 and through those turbulent years that followed, she lost her home, many of her family and friends and following a short time in Germany after the Second World War, she, her son and daughter and her mother joined thousands of Mennonite refugees who traveled to Paraguay to begin a new life. During the almost ten years in Volendam, Mom remarried and four more children were born. In 1956, through sponsoring relatives, Mom made yet another new beginning here in Canada. While her life in Canada still included hard work and difficult times, what followed were wonderful years in a large circle of family, friends and her church community, volunteering in every way she could. She was especially fond of the 35 Year Volunteer Award she received from Bethania Home, her home for the past year and a half. So often she told us she had never imagined how happy and blessed her life would be here in North Kildonan. An amazing woman of grace, forgiveness, eternal optimism, energy and unwavering faith, our Mom lived in gratitude and love for everyone, especially her family. Mom was predeceased by her husband August Hamm in 1997 and leaves behind her family: Victor Dyck and Marion Murray, Anni and Karl Hahlweg, Leni Hamm-Lousier, Peter and Maggie Hamm, Liese and Ron Kleinfeld, Johanna and Brad Chin; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four nephews; five nieces; and brother-in-law Peter and Melita Hamm. We thank God for the gift of Mom. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28 in the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, with viewing at the church prior to the service. Mom will be laid to rest beside her husband and mother at the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens following the service. Donations can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee or Bethania Personal Care Home, available at the service.
