PATRICK DAVID (SUNNY) KOSTECKI December 13, 1954 - May 25, 2009 On the 25th of May 2009 Patrick died peacefully in his sleep at The Haven. He was born December 13, 1954 in Gladstone, MB, third of three children and survived by his sister Shirley and brother Walter. His father Antoni James Kostecki predeceased Patrick in 1974. Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother Rose, sister Shirley (Payment) and his brother Walter (Evelyn), niece Angela Payment (Murray) McGill, his nephew Michael Payment (Jane), niece Heather and nephew James Kosteck. Patrick spent his formative years on the family farm in Plumas and was educated in Plumas and Gladstone. In 1974 Patrick and his mother moved to Winnipeg where he began training as a plumber. He apprenticed with Fort Garry Plumbing and Heating from 1976 to 1980. He obtained a Manitoba and Alberta Plumbers License, as well as a Gasfitters License. He worked for Inco in Thompson MB, Diamond Shamrock, Alberta Gas and Oil and Dow Chemical in Fort Saskatchewan and later set up Pat's Plumbing in Winnipeg. Patrick loved sporting activities: fishing, curling, bowling, swimming, floor hockey, football, basketball volleyball and golfing. Unfortunately, Patrick was struck with mental illness in the 80s, which changed his life forever. He resided at The Haven for almost 14 years. There his fellow residents affectionately called him Sunny because of his disposition. We are so grateful to the staff, case workers and residents for their unending kindness and care shown to Sunny all these years. Prayer Service will be officiated by Father Mariano Batucan at Friends Funeral Chapel, 2146 Main Street on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be held prior. Pallbearers will be James Kosteck, Michael Payment, Tom Schymko, Nick Schymko, Gordon Rawluk and Edward Byington. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be held at Chapel Lawn after the reception. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to The Haven, Salvation Army Group Home, 180 Henry Avenue, R3B 0J8 or Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. R3A 1P6.
