Born: Oct 03, 1931
Date of Passing: May 27, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT MALCOLM TRUSSLER Robert Malcolm Trussler began his circle of life on October 3, 1931 in Cobalt, Ontario and ended it peacefully on May 27, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joins his parents, Paul and Marion, his brother Stuart, his daughter Kelly and her husband Mike, and his grandchildren Elizabeth and Curtis. Left to continue their own journey without him are his loving wife Anne, daughter Candace and her husband Garry, son Randall and his wife Marilyn, his grandchildren Matthew and Katherine, and his sister Anne and her husband Tom. In between Cobalt and Winnipeg, there were many memorable moments for Robert. Moving to Geraldton, Thunder Bay, Calgary, McCreary, Winnipeg, St. Malo, Dauphin and back to Winnipeg. Polio at age three and recovery because of an innovative treatment, tormenting his sister, street hockey using frozen apples and Eaton's catalogues, summers in Toronto to escape the black flies of northern Ontario. Riding down steep hills on bikes with very touchy brakes. Hurrying down the hill for the school bus. Running wild and carefree on the mining town site. Taking apart a variety of cars, and sometimes putting them back in working order. Meeting and marrying Anne. Visits to Baba's farm. Riding the tractor. Dancing. Hunting. Working as a salesman in Chapple's department store, as a cage tender at the mine, as a Fuller Brush salesman, a real estate agent, a used car salesman, as a seller of industrial gases and welding equipment, store owner, a carpenter's apprentice, stationary engineer. Always happiest when working with his hands. Learning how to weld and the importance of wearing safety goggles. Twice. Learning the importance of not using his bare hands to set the saw. Teaching his son how to tear apart and, occasionally, re-assemble cars. Building his own house. Building rocking horses. Camping throughout Canada. Playing crib with, and very occasionally skunking, Anne. Making his special soups for his suitably unimpressed children. Barbeques. There were new beginnings with the arrival of children Candace, Randall, and Kelly, grandchildren Elizabeth, Curtis, Matthew and Katherine. And there were endings with Stuart, Paul, Marion, Kelly, Mike, Elizabeth and Curtis. And now Robert joins them and is at peace. We will always love you and miss you. Sleep well Dad. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 10:00 AM at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks if you so desire, that you contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the children's charity of your choice.
