JOHANNES FRANCISCUS (FRANK) WIERCKX On Wednesday, May 27, 2009 Frank Wierckx passed away peacefully after a short illness. Frank leaves his wife of 49 years Lisa and his children Rudi (Cathy), Astrid (Bruce), Ron (Barb) and Marcel (Sonja) to mourn. Frank was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in 1934 and emigrated to Winnipeg in 1967. Although proudly Canadian, Frank did hold on to his Dutch roots. Heavily involved in the Dutch Canadian Society for many years, Frank participated in the work which saw to fruition the efforts to place the Zaaier statue in the Leo Mol garden, as well as, the organization of the Tulip Festival at Assiniboine Park. Frank could be seen at most of the Dutch Canadian Society functions and was Ambassador for the Dutch Pavilion for Folklorama. Frank served as treasurer for the Dutch Canadian Society for many, many years. Frank worked as a bookkeeper at Coughlin's for a number of years and then moved on to Dynamic Machine Corp. as head of their accounting department. After many years of service at Dynamic, Frank became a shareholder of the company and retired in 1997. Frank enjoyed spending weekends at his cottage near Seven Sisters, attending concerts and operas at the Winnipeg Concert Hall, and bowling and playing cards with his wife and friends from the Dutch community. Frank's retirement was spent enjoying life, especially time spent with his grandchildren Aidan, Bryn, Ryan, Samantha and Keith. Frank also enjoyed cruise vacations during the winter months with his wife. His numerous cruise trips took him to far away tropical ports where he sought out beaches and botanical gardens. His most recent trip took him to Egypt where he toured sites that he had long wanted to visit. In addition to family in Canada, Frank leaves two brothers in Holland, as well as, many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Tuesday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Manitoba Cancer Care or Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital.
