GEORGE BRUCE TOOLEY November 17, 1919 - May 30, 2009 On May 30, 2009 our beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend passed away peacefully with family and his best friend, Kim, at his side at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB, at the age of 89 years after a lengthy and courageous battle with emphysema. George is survived by his daughters, Brucette Waterston (Douglas), Mitchell, MB, Juanita Brown (Buster) Steinbach, MB; sons, Theodore (Betsy), Steinbach, MB, Andre (Gail), Langham, SK; 11 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews in Ontario. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jim and Fred in Ontario. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Helena, his two sons, Randall (Jim) and Douglas, grandson Sean and infant grandson Leonard Bruce. He was also predeceased by his brother Roy and sisters Velma and Melanie. George was born in Markham Twp, York City, Ontario on November 17, 1919 and grew up on the family farm in Milliken, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and served three years in Canada, UK, and Europe. George joined the Canadian Postal Service in 1949 and served 35 years. On his retirement, he moved to Manitoba and settled in the Bristol area near Mitchell. George was a member of Steinbach Legion 190. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ilchyna, nurses and staff of Bethesda Hospital for the excellent care given to Dad during the past six weeks. A celebration of life will be held at Christ Our Saviour Catholic Parish, 365 Loewen Blvd., Steinbach, MB, on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB and one hour prior to the service.
