MARGARET ANN BURNSIDE January 7, 1927 - May 28, 2009 Peacefully, on May 28, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre, with family at her side, Margaret passed away at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1994, and is lovingly remembered by her brothers Gordon (Margaret) and Tommy in Scotland, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, Scotland and England. After a lifetime of being a very friendly, helpful person, she will also be remembered by many friends and neighbours. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Margaret grew up one of 11 children of Jane and Roger Ashcroft. After she and Jack married they immigrated to Canada in 1953 and settled in Winnipeg. She was employed in secretarial work for many years at Robinson, Little Co., then after more than 20 years at the Manitoba Legislature, retired from the business world. She and Jack were avid travellers, enjoying cruises and trips to Glasgow, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Florida, as well as across Canada. She joined the Eastern Star in Glasgow, and continued in the Queen Winnipeg Chapter No. 1, receiving her 50 year pin in 2003. Margaret enjoyed sewing, knitting, stitch work, crossword puzzles, gardening and baking - her Scottish shortbread was envied by all. She was a wonderful friend, sister and aunt, gracious and intelligent, who was always there, offering to help, often before you realized you were in need. She always thoughtfully and generously remembered births, birthdays, and weddings of all, including nieces, nephews and friends. At her request, cremation has taken place and ashes will be placed beside those of Jack, at St. Vital Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Margaret during the last four years. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 4 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit, Riverview Health Centre. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
