HEATHER NICOLE SWAIN Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family and close friends, Heather Nicole Swain, 34 years of age, ended her battle with cancer on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital. Heather is survived by her loving parents, Bill and Sherron McLean; special friend, Ryan Corder and his family; step-family, Lorraine, David and Jennifer Swain; grandparents, Gordon Swain; Lloyd and Louise Drayson; a special great-aunt, Lucille Good; uncles, Duane Drayson (Roselene) and cousin Derek; Les Swain (Linda) and cousins Dylan and Leslie; aunts, Gloria Drayson and cousin Dallas; Joan Swain and cousins Natalie and Kristina; aunt and uncle Marlene and Garry Trimble. Heather had many dear and close friends and she viewed them and their children as part of her family. Heather was predeceased by her father, Bill Swain; grandmothers, Jean Swain and Vera McLean; uncles, Darryl Drayson and Ted Swain. Heather was a beautiful, vibrant young lady who was very dedicated to her family, friends and her chosen profession. Heather was born and raised in St. Vital and attended Dr. D.W. Penner and Minnetonka schools and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate in 1993, University of Manitoba in 1996 and Red River Community College obtaining her Business Administration Degree in 1999. She excelled at school and was always on the honour roll and had the honour of being valedictorian for her Grade 9 class. Upon completing her education she was employed with Assiniboine Credit Union where she formed many lasting friendships. She loved her most recent position as Project Manager at Great-West Life and the team of people she worked with were great and many friendships were formed. It was very difficult for her to leave her job last fall due to her illness but she said it would only be temporary. Heather also had various summer jobs while attending school and still kept in contact with many of those associates. Her favourite time of the year was summer when she could get up to the family cabin at Clear Lake and the cottage at Grand Beach or just take walks with Ryan and his dogs. Heather and Ryan and their friends camped in the summer and took turns having pot-luck dinners when it was too cool to camp, with Heather usually in charge of dessert. Cooking was a natural to her and she was always eager to try something new. She also made the best chocolate chip cookies. Heather and Ryan loved to travel and made many trips to Toronto, Montreal and Fargo to shop and just get away. (Heather loved to shop). Last spring they travelled to parts of the southern United States and visited Nashville, etc. A few years ago they also visited Egypt and the surrounding territory. Heather had also enjoyed a trip to Orlando and a couple of trips to Hawaii with her family. At this time, the family would like to deeply thank everyone who supported Heather and her family through her illness. We appreciated your concern, kind words of encouragement, the hugs and prayers. A very special accolade to Dr. Ralph Wong, his nurse Kathy and all the special people in the treatment room at Cancer Care, St. Boniface Hospital. You are such genuinely caring people; always smiling and encouraging. Our sincere appreciation to the paramedics, the doctors and nurses in the emergency department and 5B at St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to Heather and her family during her last couple of days. A celebration of Heather's life will be held at The United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, June 6, 2009 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
