VIRGINIA MARY MORROW (nee BANKS) Virginia passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, May 29th, 2009 on a beautiful evening, in her garden. She lived an extraordinarily full and active life, and her death has come as a shock to her family and friends. Virginia was born October 18, 1918 and grew up in Vancouver's west end. She never lost her affection for the city and the natural beauty of its surroundings. She married Hector Morrow in 1946, and they enjoyed many years of marriage. They lived in New York City, Anchorage, Minneapolis and Winnipeg before moving to Victoria in 1975. Together they traveled extensively to visit family and friends in all parts of the world. Virginia worked as a stenographer in Winnipeg and brought her intelligence and strong work ethic to the employers who so valued her. In Victoria, Virginia took particular pleasure in gardening, bridge, and volunteering for many different organizations over the last three decades. She valued her friendships throughout the years and was blessed to be supported by so many old and new friends, especially in the last five years since Hector's death. Virginia will be greatly missed by her family; her sons David Morrow (Judy) and James Morrow (Alison Smith), and her daughter Susan Morrow (David Hewlett). She was a much-loved Gran to Cara Morrow (Cabell Wilkes), Jared Morrow (Rachael), Jeffrey Morrow, Paul Morrow, Dylan Hewlett, Sean Hewlett and Michael Hewlett. She was the proud great-grandmother of Keolani Morrow. Virginia was a strong supporter of all of her children and grandchildren, and was always keenly interested in their activities and accomplishments. Although Virginia led a very independent life, we are indebted to her neighbors and the many people in the medical field whose support and services allowed her to continue to live in her home that she so dearly loved. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5th at 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria. There will be a reception following at the funeral home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Virginia and Hector believed in supporting community at all levels, but particularly in the family unit as a source of love and strength. If so desired, a donation may be made in their memory to your local YMCA/YWCA.
