ERLENDUR (LEN) HANNESON 1916 - 2009 On Tuesday, June 2, 2009, Len passed away peacefully at home with his wife Nora and family by his side. Len was the son of Icelandic parents, the late Jon and Helga Hanneson. He was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Sorenson, Norma Watson, Frances Harnden, Beatrice Hanneson, and his brother George Hanneson. Len is lovingly remembered by his wife Nora of 59 years, their daughters Patti (Rick) Hatch and children Johanna and Kristofer of Vancouver, Wendy (Dr. Craig) Hildahl and children Kristin Hildahl-Shawn (Mike Shawn), Stefan (Amanda), and Erik of Winnipeg, and Johanna (Ken) Skaftfeld and children Erika and Jon of Winnipeg. Len was born in Langruth, Manitoba, and early in life enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force to serve as an Officer in the Second World War as a pilot and trainer, and worked on VHF radio equipment on the east side of London for the duration of the War. He was an active member of the Western Canadian Aviation Museum, Canadian Ham Radio Operators Association (VE4FN), Ducks Unlimited Canada, and the St. James Legion, where he was a charter member for 63 years. Len and Nora married in 1950, and together throughout their life time experienced 35 wonderful years in Winnipeg with their children and grandchildren in support of their many sporting and school events. They enjoyed trips to the cottage with family, across Canada, the U.S, and Europe. Our husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be forever remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his truly positive outlook on life, his ability to be able to fix everything that he set his mind to, his patience, generosity, and kindness, strong sense of values, and most importantly, his support and love of family. He lived and loved life to its fullest. The family would like to give their sincere thanks to Dr. Sharkey for his many years of devotion and care, and to Tina, Trudy, Chery, and Mini for their care and support. A celebration of Len's life will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue at 3:00 pm. with Ingthor Isfeld officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
