FRED HASSETT 1922 - 2009 On Wednesday June 3, 2009, after a brief illness and with his family by his side, Fred passed away at the age of 86. Predeceased by his parents Alice and William, sister Jean and brother-in-law Clare Bird. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Joyce of 59 years; daughter Kathleen (Bob) Hearn; son Rick (Gayle); grandsons, Andrew, Steven and Kevin; niece Barb Anderson and family of Dallas, Texas and nephew Michael Bird and family of Toronto. Dad was born on September 12, 1922 in Winnipeg and was raised on the family farm in St. Francis Xavier area. Dad worked at various jobs including Corrections Officer at Stony Mountain, long distance truck driver, and retiring from the City of Winnipeg as a mechanic. Dad was always a keen sports fan and was a gifted hockey player in his youth. After retirement Dad enjoyed being out on the golf course, gardening, especially tomatoes, and enjoyed a beer at the A.N.A.F. At this time the family would like to thank the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for the care and kindness in the past years and also the Grace Hospital for their care in his final days. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
