NORMA TYRRELL (nee KING) Norma Geraldine Tyrrell née King, born in Carman on November 17, 1932, died in Winnipeg on Wednesday, June 3, following complications from surgery. She was predeceased by her husband Ted Tyrrell in Georgetown, Ontario, her sister Ruth Keck of Clearwater, BC, and her parents, Alex and Mabel King. She is survived by her brother Cameron King (Shirley) of Parksville, BC, her sisters Margaret Stinson (Hartley) of Winnipeg, Sybil King of Toronto, and many nieces and nephews. Norma grew up on the family farm in the Boyne district near Carman. She was educated at the Boyne country school, the Carman Collegiate Institute, and the University of Manitoba. She graduated with a Bachelor of Home Economics. Shortly after graduating, she and a friend crossed the Atlantic, rented a VW, and traveled the roads of Europe. When she arrived home she found to her consternation that the entire community knew of her travels in much greater detail than she expected. Each of her letters to her Mom and Dad had been published in the Carman Leader. Norma's first career was in hospital dietetics, working at several healthcare institutions in Ontario. She returned to school to qualify as a teacher and taught home economics in a secondary school in London Ontario. She followed that with a third career in business, working as an office manager for several small manufacturing firms in the Toronto area. Norma and Ted lived for many happy years in Georgetown, Ontario, where she enjoyed their garden and their pet cats. After Ted died, she retired and moved to a condo in Burlington. She was in the process of moving back to Manitoba and was looking forward to living in western Canada again when her health failed suddenly. A private family service will be held at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery in Carman on June 15th. Neil Bardal Inc. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
