CHRISTOPHER SOTIRIS SARIDES Peacefully, on April 23, 2009, Chris passed away at Riverview Healthcare Centre at the age of 85 years. Born May 24, 1923 in Jerusalem, the fourth child to Christopher Sarides and his wife Ingratia (nee Dervicicles). He is survived by his sister, Alex Kastellano, and sister-in-law Olympia Sarides. Chris was predeceased by his first wife, Doris (nee Passalis), of 20 years and mother to his son George, and his second wife, Jean (nee MacIntyre) of two years. After many years, Chris found happiness again with his partner of 17 years, Peggy Kaiser, whom he leaves to cherish his memory. Chris is also lovingly remembered by his son George and daughter-in-law Miriam Duff, his grandsons Matthew and Justin, and his many nieces and nephews, especially Victor Popow (Lisa), George Popow (Ursula) and Kandia Sarides (David) of Winnipeg, Robert (Lynn) Bandak of Los Angeles and Marina Chahine (Mustafa) of La Canada, California, as well as Peggy's daughters Jackie Myshkowski and Arlene Kaiser (Ed) and granddaughter Andrea Myshkowski - who introduced Chris and Peggy to one another. Family friends Shelley Cook, Ivan and Connie LeBlanc, and Bill and Mary Duff will also fondly remember Chris. His special feline companion, Uma misses him dearly. Chris trained as a dental technician in Cairo, Egypt from the age of 16. He moved to Canada in 1951 and started work at Shaw Dental Lab, where he attained success and respect over his 15 years of employment. Building upon his reputation in the dental community, he opened Chris Sarides Laboratory (Chris's Lab) in 1966, which he operated until 1988. Following this, he consulted with many dental labs until his retirement in 1993. Among his proudest professional accomplishments, was his collaboration with the University of Manitoba Dental School, to develop and provide prosthetic devices for children born with cleft palates. Chris loved to travel and frequently regaled his family and friends with many stories of his adventures, especially as a young man in the Middle East and during the Second World War. He also loved watching old John Wayne Westerns and war movies. He was very fond of his daily walks while in good health. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team in the community and at 2 East Riverview Healthcare Centre for their excellent, compassionate care. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Chris's life has been held.
