W. BRYANT GUNHOUSE Peacefully on June 2, 2009, Bryant passed away as a result of Multiple Myeloma. He was predeceased by his much loved wife of 50 years, Marguerite. A wonderful Dad and Grandpa, Bryant will be greatly missed by his family of whom he was so proud Blair (Jennifer) of Toronto and daughter Noelle, Craig (Linda) of Winnipeg, Graham (Karen) of Winnipeg and children, Marisa and Matthew, Kevin (Mia) of Calgary and sons Nicholas, Theo and Marco. He was survived by his brothers and their families Lowell and Margaret of Toronto and Barrie and Betty of Kingston. He will also be missed by his in-laws, Joan, husband Bill (Tyler) of Pointe Claire and their family. Bryant was born on March 18, 1932, and educated in the Montreal area. He was very active athletically as a youth and particularly enjoyed the many years skiing with Marg and friends in the Laurentians. Hockey was also a big part of Bryant's life. He coached, watched and transported his four boys to innumerable 6 AM games. Twenty years later, he would enjoy his grandson Matthew's games every bit as much. Bryant joined CN Rail in December 1950 and worked for that company up to the formation of VIA Rail in 1978. In the 28 years with CN he worked in various capacities in Passenger Sales, Research and Customer and Catering Services. In 1972, he was transferred to the Mountain Region in Edmonton where he served in Senior Management positions ending as Regional Manager, Passenger Sales and Services. When VIA Rail was formed in 1978 he accepted the offer to become VIA West's Regional Manager Operations. He retired from VIA in March, 1987. Bryant was President of the VIA Rail Manitoba and Saskatchewan Pensioners' Assn. for 14 years. He had also been the VIA Rail Pensioners' National Vice President and served on the VIA Rail Pension Board to the present day. After retirement, Bryant became active in seniors' advocacy. He chaired the Network of Retirees' Assns. in Manitoba, was involved in a number of MSOS activities and wrote a number of articles for their Journal. He took the Watch Program of the National Sheriffs' Assn., in Washington and adapted it into a program that eventually became known as ERIK (Emergency Response Information Kit). ERIK has been implemented and adopted by most senior organizations. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 8, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (one block south of the Royal Canadian Mint) followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Many thanks to the Doctors and nurses who provided assistance over the years and a special thank you to Dr. Moltzan and her team at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Bryant may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
