FREDRIC PAUL SCIBERRAS May 11, 1924 - June 3, 2009 Surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, Fred passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital at the age of 85 years. Devoted husband of Stella (Prokipchuk), wonderful father of son Lloyd (Laurie), daughter Brenda (Dave Elias), sister Del Farrell, brother Charlie Sciberras (Rose), and sister-in-law Janet Sciberras. Proud grandfather of Rheanna Marshall (Robert Olson), Jessica Hale (Matthew), Alyssa Scott (Desmond) and Tamara Sciberras, great-grandfather of Alex and Kaden Hale, and Marnie and Corbin Scott. Fred also leaves many nieces and nephews and dear friends to cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his father Peter Sciberras and mother Ludgarda (Magro) and his brother Mike Sciberras and nephew Shawn. Dad grew up in Southside Transcona and at a young age began working for the railway. He worked as a Machinist in the Transcona shops where he made many life long friendships from 1941 until his retirement in April 1985. Dad and Mom just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on May 23. Together, they built their country home just outside of Dugald, Manitoba in 1963. They spent many happy years gardening and enjoying family and friends there. Dad was the rock and foundation in our lives and he will be so dearly missed. Our family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Concordia Hospital N1S and N3W, especially speech pathologist Robert, and nurse Marlene, for the compassionate care they provided during Dad's stay. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home on Monday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6 or another charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My heartfelt condolences to the Sciberras family during your time of sorrow. In the mid 1970s, Fred was a journeyman machinist at the Transcona Shops, which I was fortunate to have been assigned with, as an apprentice. Fred had great mechanical skills, and knowledge, which he always unselfishly passed on to me as a young learner. Fred had the patience of an “angel” when teaching someone, and I will forever be grateful for his understanding. Rest in peace my friend; you were a good man! - Posted by: Paul Dufault (Co-Worker) on: Jun 06, 2009
