ALEXANDER JOHN HESHKA It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Alexander (Sandy), our much loved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother-in-law and Uncle. Dad passed away Friday, June 5, 2009 in the early morning at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Inga; daughter Sandra (Albert); son Sandy Jr. (Judy) and daughter Joanne; brother Waldimer (Vivian) Heska; sister-in-law Irene Rach; as well as four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and dear family friends. Alexander was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine Hyshka; sisters, Mrs. Anatasia Sarchuck, Mrs. Victoria Lacey, Emily Heshka; brothers, Sylvester (Rusty) Heska and Myroslaw Heshka; sister-in-law Mrs. May Heska and brother-in-law Roy Carlson. Dad was born on July 10, 1919 in Arran, SK. After being discharged from the Army in 1946 he came to Winnipeg and it was at a dance that he met his soulmate Inga. Their dance has lasted 61 years. They were married December 13, 1947 and settled in Transcona to raise their family. Dad began his employment with the C.N.R. in the Transcona shops until his retirement in 1984. In 1991 he and Inga built their last home on Lake Winnipeg at Silver Falls, Manitoba, on the same property owned by Inga's grandparents since 1954. He was in his element puttering in the yard, mowing grass, tending to his garden and flowers and picking his raspberries. He was constantly shadowed by his companion T.J. the beagle. He loved to go berry picking, fishing and hunting. In early years he bowled and was also a stamp and coin collector. He also loved to read his magazines and especially enjoyed his western novels. In later years, he enjoyed trips to the casino. Dad faced his illness with dignity and pride and yes with stubbornness and fought hard to stay for his beloved Inga but it was not meant to be. He devoted, with loving care the last five years to Inga until he could no longer and knew she would be looked after by the family. His pal Fritz the cat, whom he had for 12 years will miss him too. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre and Riverview Day Hospital for their care and consideration given to our father in his final days. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation may be made in Dad's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. We love you Dad You will always be in our hearts Til we meet again. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
