Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE ARTHUR VICTOR SCHAEFER PA Unexpectedly on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre, Larry Schaefer passed away at the age of 73. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Etheline (Etty) (nee Kirchhofer); their children: Kathy (Bob) Carter, Brian Schaefer and Susan (Darren) Shaw. Pa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Justin and Jillian Carter and Carissa and Braden Shaw. He will also be remembered by his siblings: Dennis (Sandra) Schaefer and Trudy (Craig) Wallis; nephews: David (Kathy) and Jim Schaefer, Chris and Kim Wallis. Larry was predeceased by his parents Emily (nee Weitzel) and Arthur Schaefer, mother and father-in-law Kay and Joe Kirchhofer, as well as many aunts and uncles. Lawrence was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 7, 1935. He attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools. Dad articled with William Hurley Chartered Accountants and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1958. He was employed with the Federal Income Tax Department and the Manitoba Securities Commission until his retirement in 1990. Throughout his life Larry participated in many sports. In his younger years he enjoyed soccer, basketball, and high jump. Later on, Dad loved to play baseball, bowl, golf, and fish. His great passion for music allowed him to work teaching accordion, to put himself through university. Many hours were spent down in the rec room making music on his accordion. After suffering his stroke in 1978, he became involved in the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba. Larry's favorite hobby was radio control model airplanes. Dad's fondest memories were the times spent at Tannis Lake, Ontario with family and friends. His cottage was a labour of love. With every sunrise, every sunset, and every cry of the loon, from now on, our hearts will be filled with the love of Dad. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the St. Boniface Emergency Dept. and the angels at the Riverview Health Centre E3. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at Klassen Funeral Home on Friday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bruce Gelhorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Angel Mausoleum at Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy. #1 East at Green Acres Lane. Donations may be made to the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba, 247 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G6.
