ELSIE SCHAFER September 1, 1923 June 3, 2009 It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that following a brief illness we announce the passing of our dear aunt Elsie Schafer, aged 85, on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Grace Hospital. Elsie was predeceased by her brothers Dave and Alexander; sisters Mary Lucid, and Lydia Schultz. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, their children, and her friends. Elsie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 1, 1923, the youngest of five children born to immigrant parents George and Mary Schafer. She was raised in the North End of Winnipeg, and attended Ralph Brown School, Isaac Newton High School, and finished her education at Manitoba Commercial College. Elsie was employed as a Legal Stenographer at a number of Winnipeg law firms. She was a long standing member of Zion Apostolic Church. Elsie was a very loving, devoted and caring aunt. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, her informative telephone conversations, her intellectual curiosity, and her independence. Her strong faith in God gave her the ability to deal with life's challenges. Visitation 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg. Funeral service 1:00pm Friday, June 12, 2009 with Pastor Tom Campbell officiating. Interment Brookside Cemetery.
