CONRAD GILES HAIGHT January 28, 1936 June 6, 2009 With extreme sadness, we announce the passing of Captain Conrad Haight (retired) at the age of 73, his loving sons at his side. Con was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Bibiane (Richard) Haight; and by his wife Jane, the love of his life who died in a tragic vehicle accident in September 2008. Con is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Kendra Haight, and their children Kiersten and Carson of Winnipeg; by his son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Vivian Haight and their children Kody, Carro, and Brady of Portage la Prairie; by his sister Lorraine (Fred) Rasmussen of Tofield, Alberta; by his sister Jeanine (Earle) McVicar of Calgary; by his many nieces and nephews and cousins; and by numerous dear friends who loved and respected him. Con was born in North Battleford Sask. and spent his formative years in Cardiff, Sask. and Emerson, Man. He began his working career in Hay River, NWT, with the Fisheries Research Board. Over the years he worked in many locations as a Captain of government and commercial freshwater ships and ferry vessels, including the Stenotus on Great Slave Lake, the Norweta on the Mackenzie River, and the River Rouge on the Red River. Con loved the nautical life and contributed to the development of Canada's north. He took great pleasure in providing guidance and assistance to our country's native peoples. He was an outstanding hunter and marksman, and loved nature and the great outdoors. In his later years Con enjoyed trips to Birds Hill Park with his wife and four legged companion Nina. He was an extremely hard worker, who was very devoted to his wife and family and took immense pride in providing for them. Peace be with you, Con. You will live in our hearts forever. At Conrad's request, no public memorial service will be held. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Con's memory to The Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB.
