KENNETH OWEN WYLIE, M.D. December 6, 1920 - June 8, 2009 Dr. Kenneth Wylie, beloved husband of Helen Kelly Wylie, passed away at Misericordia Place at the age of 88 years. Dr. Ken Wylie will be sadly missed and remembered by his devoted wife Helen Kelly R.N. He will also be sadly missed by his five children from his first marriage, Barry and Angie, Brent and Margy and family, Arleigh and family, Ross, Lori and family. He helped make it possible for them to get a university education, a home and employment. He is also survived by his sister Francie and her family; many close friends including, Gordie Trydor, Craig and Don; and his attorney, John Restall. He belonged to the Southwood Golf Course and was involved in many activities but medicine was always a part of his life. He pursued Paediatrics and had a keen interest in promoting and advancing the practice of medicine at both the Provincial and Federal levels: 1952 to 1953 Private practice in Paediatrics; 1953 to 1954 St. Boniface Residence and Cancer Teaching Fellow; 1954 to 1957 Assistant Chief Resident, Winnipeg Children's Hospital; 1957 Certified Specialist Paediatrics, CRCPS - Canada; 1957 Royal College of Physicians Surgeons of Canada, Emeritus Fellow of the Canadian Paediatrics Society since 1969. MEDICAL ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY: 1969 to 1970 President - Canadian Paediatrics Society; 1973 to 1974 President - Manitoba Medical Association; 1978 to 1979 President - Canadian Medical Association, President-Medical Staff - St. Boniface Hospital. MEDICAL PRACTICE: Paediatrics; 1957 to 1981 Private Practice, University of Manitoba Appointment; 1957 to 1982 Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics. CORRECTIONAL SERVICES OF CANADA: 1980 to 1989 Member, Medical Advisory Committee; 1964 to 1972 St. Amant, Medical Director; 1964 to 1997 Active staff at St. Amant then Honorary Medical Staff; 1952 to 1991 Member St. Boniface Hospital, active staff; 1957 to 1981 Winnipeg Children's Hospital, active staff. WORKERS' COMPENSATION BOARD: 1980 to 1989 Medical Director. MANITOBA GOVERNMENT: 1990 Income Security Division Family Services, Medical Panel - Physician Member. He flew to Northern Manitoba to provide medical services to some of those remote communities. He received the QUEEN'S MEDAL twice for his dedicated service to Canada. Cremation has taken place and at Ken's request there will be no formal service. Inurnment to take place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at a later date. Many thanks to all the staff at St. Boniface ward, Unit 4E and at Misericordia Place, H2. Donations in Ken's memory to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated. Hi there, we have a Manitoba Medical association (past president) pin engraved to Dr Kenneth Wylie, a Canadian Medical association Past president (78-79) medal as well as some cuff links and other pins.
