ANNA NETTIE DAY January 7, 1931 June 4, 2009 On Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a lengthy struggle with COPD and her third battle with cancer, Anna Nettie Day (nee Nikkel), passed away at the age of 78 years. Anna was predeceased by her husband Lorne, her mother and father Katherine and John, sister Grace, and many other family and friends. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her two daughters Lori-Ann (Darren) Heidman and Daleon Kim' Shandler (Al Stechishin) as well as three grandchildren, Lorne, Jenni (Andrew), and Lindsay. Mom also leaves behind three sisters; Ruth (Herb) Zilke, Penny Lach (late Gerry) and Dorothy (Al) Shute all in Manitoba; two brothers, Victor (Heidi) in Arizona, and Cy (Brenda) in Michigan and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. With mom right to her last breath was her longtime very special friend and dear companion William Salter. Mom was a tireless worker and she had many fond memories of working at Canada Packers, the Ranch House, and the Canadian German Society. She was a beautiful, compassionate, loving, caring mother and grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She shared her vivacious spirit with everybody she met. She had a unique personality, with an unstoppable will and determination, and an amazing genuine smile that everyone loved. She always put everyone else first, sometimes at great personal cost, but it was an enduring quality that will linger in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Mom's family was the most important thing in the world to her. She faced her illness the same way she did everything in her life - with unbelievable strength, courage, dignity, and grace, and no matter how ill or weary she was she somehow always found the energy for all of us. Her love, her sacrifice, and her dedication is her legacy to us all. At mom's request, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Program for all their help and the caring support they gave mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anna's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Rm ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9 We love you mom, and we miss you so very much.
