Born: Aug 03, 1919
Date of Passing: Jun 13, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) HENRY August 3, 1919 - June 13, 2009 Our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend passed away peacefully Saturday June 13, 2009, just two months shy of his 90th birthday. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 56 years Thelma, son Dale and daughter Tracey (Jeff). He also leaves his sisters Eileen and May and sisters-in-law Beryl, Jean and Liz. Jack was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth, father Daniel, brothers Joseph, Danny and Gerry, as well as sister Kathleen. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who loved and adored him, along with his many good friends. Jack was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and later moved to London, England where he met and married his beloved Thelma. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada where both their children were born. He was employed as a painter first at the Children's Hospital, then at the University of Manitoba where he worked until his retirement. Jack adored his wife and children and was never shy of handing out hugs and kisses to all. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family as well, especially his brother Gerry. They spent many hours at the Assiniboia Downs together coming home to inform us that their horse only lost by a nose. He also loved a good game of golf with his brother, nephews and friends at Tuxedo Golf Course and being the true Irishman, he enjoyed the Guinness that went with the game. He loved a good conversation and was not afraid to give you his opinion. He had a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious laugh. He was a champion ballroom dancer and dance teacher in Ireland for many years. It was a pleasure to watch him sail across the dance floor with Thelma in his arms. Jack loved life but it had become a struggle for him in the last six months due to his failing health. His struggle has now ended and he has gone on to a better place to be reunited with and embraced with open arms by the many people waiting for him; especially his brother Gerry whom he loved and missed terribly. Those two loved nothing better than a good argument. They are once again together to carry on where they left off. Heaven help the Angels, they are going to need earplugs. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Interment will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. A. Mare and the staff at the Linden Ridge Medical Center for the exceptional care they provided to Jack over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Victoria Hospital Foundation or The Siloam Mission. Rest in Peace Dad. We love and miss you and forever you will be in our thoughts and hearts.
