Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID WILLIAMS WELCH February 11, 1927 June 17, 2009 IN THE BEGINNING There are no records of earthquakes, falling stars, or Northern lights on February 11, 1927, but that was the day I was delivered to Irene (Williams) and John Welch at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario. I've lived a good life. In the early years, I had many great summer jobs working on the SS Rapids Prince and then the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise, as a bell hop. I developed a good work ethic, put myself through Queens University and most importantly, met the love of my life, Elaine (Holloway). We married, produced three children and for 35 years I worked for the Ford Motor Company. Highlights of my career include a posting in Winnipeg as Regional Manager for the Mid-west (1969) and a big move to London, England as Director of European Operations for Ford Credit (1978). I opted for early retirement and have enjoyed living in St. Ives, England, Salt Spring Island, BC and in the end Kingston, Ont. Together with Elaine; I have travelled the world and taken great pleasure in its diversity. I am the quintessential family man, putting family first in my life. I also enjoy tennis, dogs, birds, working outdoors and going to church. I am survived by loving family members, brother John (Marion), wife of 57 years Elaine, children Tony (Lois), Heather (James), and Nicholas, grandchildren Brian, Quinn and Hilary, Justin and Amanda, great-grandchildren Austin and Kyleigh and lifelong family friend Elizabeth. I was predeceased by my sister Joan McDonald. I love you all and will wait patiently for our reunion. IN THE END Thank you to all who cared for me; family, friends, the kind and caring staff of Victoria General Hospital (Winnipeg) and Dr. Pacin for his guidance and compassion through my battle with cancer. A celebration of my life will take place on Friday, June 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, to be followed by a gathering at the home of Heather and James. A secondary celebration will occur in Kingston, Ont. at a future date. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
