JOHN HUMENIUK On June 14, 2009, John passed away after numerous illnesses and many hospital stays. John was the son of Mike and Antonia Humeniuk (Talaga). He lived happily in his own home, near Broad Valley, Manitoba until last fall when illness prevented him from returning to his much loved farm. After a lengthy hospital stay, he moved into the Fisher Branch Chalet. Born on a homestead less than a mile from his home, he lived his whole life in the immediate area. Grain farming was his livelihood, and interest, always. In his retirement years he needed to be informed of seeding, harvest and everything in-between. He enjoyed many years of hunting, with many good friends. The hunt wasn't the event. The campfire and pals were! John was predeceased by his sister Mary, and his wife Charlotte who was the love of his life. She gave him a happy home. It was a sad time for all when cancer claimed her life in 2001. John and Charlotte, in retirement, looked forward to their summers of fishing and camping in Ontario with Charlotte's family. Always an excellent woodworker, John could tackle almost anything, large or small from buildings to kitchen cabinets and furniture. The past few years, he spent much time making rocking lawn chairs. Many of us have a set! John was a good friend and was admired by many. He will be missed greatly by his best friend, and caregiver over the past many years, his nephew Richard. He is survived by his brother Walter (Vicki) and family, his nephew Richard (Sherryl) and family, niece Sharon, son Allen (Laurie) and step-daughter, Gale. We give thanks to all that made his life so comfortable recently and gave us hope and resources to continue. Thank you to the exceptional Percy E. Moore doctors and staff for the excellent care. Thank you for the cribbage games that made his day complete. We are grateful for the humour and at the same time compassionate concern, and thanks for calling us when he needed scratch tickets! (wink! wink!) Thank you so much to Donna Lindal, Home Care Coordinator for arrangements and guidance in his adjustment to the home care system, as well as monitoring his hospital and home stays. Thanks to Bob Schreyer, Home Care resource coordinator (and Karen!) for being there when we, and John, needed you. To the wonderful staff at the Fisher Personal Care Home, where John spent a few weeks in respite recently, we thank you for the great care and the home-like atmosphere. He was somewhat reluctant to check in to a Personal Care Home, but found you all to be so great, he was sad to leave. Many thanks to the dedicated home care workers that helped John, checked on him frequently, and most importantly, played cribbage with him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher Handi-van Inc. Cremation has taken place. It was John's wish to have a private family funeral at a later date. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. Fisher Branch, MB (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803
