WALTER JONNY IMBECK We sadly announce the passing of Walter Imbeck on June 13, 2009. Walter was born on March 23, 1941 in Neumunster, Germany. He was the son of Jonny and Sibylle Imbeck. He is survived by one sister Beate Gauger, one brother Manfred Imbeck, also 11 nieces and nephews all living in Germany. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Ilse, Erika and Ursula; brothers Owe-Franz and Arnold. Walter attended school in Neumunster, he worked in an Iron Foundry in Stockguss in Neumunster from 1955-1957. Then in Nordrhein Westphalen from 1957-1959 in Hagan, Germany. From 1959-1962 he served in the German Army. He immigrated to Canada in 1964, upon arriving he worked in an Iron Foundry and a car wash before getting employment as a shipper receiver at Canada Safeway, Lucerne Foods Cheese Dept. in 1972, to his retirement in 2000. Walter was a good friend to many people, especially his co-workers and neighbours. He was always there to help out with whatever project his friends were doing, either painting, building and anything where he could lend a hand. His love for animals was great, especially his dog Roachie and his beloved orphaned cat, Lucy. His wishes were that the animal remains go with him. Walter was a proud Canadian but cherished his homeland Germany where he visited his family as often as he could. Walter's many hobbies included composing and playing music on his accordion, doing leatherwork pictures, wallets and purses; also miniature ship building. He was most proud of his home on Henderson Highway, working continuously on his house and yard. Pots of flowers and lawn ornaments adorned his property. After retiring Walter took on many painting jobs to compensate for the updates on his home. He loved visits to friends at Minaki and Victoria Beach. Walter's door was always open to everyone, a coffee, a drink was enjoyed by many who would automatically stop by for a visit and good conversation. Special thanks go out to Cindy for looking after Walter's cat since his disappearance and Dave for tending to his yard, to numerous friends, neighbours and the volunteers who have helped to look for Walter at this sad time. Pallbearers will be Dave Treyturik, Rob Walchuk, Michael Gauger, Doug Roxburgh, Jason Ateah and Dean Ateah. Honourary pallbearers will be Dave Roxburgh, Steve Chalus, Wayne Johnson, Miles Williams, Carl Ateah and Larry Ateah. Burial will take place on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Victoria Beach Cemetery with a celebration of Walter's life to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB with Rev. Judy Whitmore officiating. In lieu of flowers and Walter's love for animals, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3, or to a charity of your choice.
