HELEN A. BARBOUR February 26, 1940 June 17, 2009 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister Helen after a courageous battle with cancer. Helen was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2006, her mother Kay in 2004 and her father John in 1966. Helen's memory will be cherished by her daughter Lori (Ed), son Ron (Karen), grandchildren Rick (Leighan), Brett, Cody, Conner, great-grandchild Kenzi, sister Irene (Dave), special aunt Irene, nephew Mike (June). Helen was born in Winnipeg where she met and married her husband Frank. Helen and Frank enjoyed the cottage life and bought a lot at the Big Whiteshell Lake where they built their first cabin together. Helen enjoyed sitting on the front deck every morning looking over the lake while drinking her coffee or in the evening sipping on a glass of wine and the many happy hours in between spent with family and friends. Helen was very active in curling, golfing and belonged to many leagues throughout the years. Helen loved to travel and went on many trips with family and friends over the years. After their retirement Helen and Frank traveled to Texas in their fifth wheel and enjoyed the winters golfing with their snowbird friends. Helen's life was about her friends and family and the times she enjoyed with them. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Maksymiuk at Manitoba CancerCare and the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to make a donation in memory of Helen to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, R3E 9Z9.
