LEONARD (NEIL) SULLIVAN Peacefully, in Victoria General Hospital, Neil Sullivan passed away on June 21, 2009, on father's day. He will be sorely missed by his son Dean (Patti) of Ottawa, daughter Vivian (Iain Day) of Winnipeg and by his grandchildren Shannon Sullivan and Cole Sullivan both of Ottawa. He leaves to mourn as well, his brother-in-law Paul Burelle (Mary) of Neepawa, his sister-in-law Marie Mallabar of London, Ontario, sister-in-law Kay Burelle of Roblin, and many nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret, on March 7 of this year, and by parents Leonard and Mabel Sullivan, sister Peggy and brother-in-law Mervin Swayze, and by brother Louis. Neil was born on August 21, 1923 in Barrie, Ontario. His growing-up years were spent in Regina and Saskatoon, before moving to Winnipeg with his family as a young adult. He was a prairie person through and through and enjoyed all opportunities to be in the country - be it duck hunting, fishing or visiting family. He was a member of the Canadian Army and was deployed to England during the Second World War. After returning home, he attended the University of Manitoba and soon began a 35 plus year career with the T. Eaton Co., where he rose to the position of senior auditor, retiring in 1983. He was a man of many and varied interests - from painting watercolours and writing poetry, to gardening and travelling, to inventing, building and fixing just about anything he ventured to do. He was an early adopter of technology throughout the years - from the latest in electronics and tools, to the personal computer to his hybrid car. He will be remembered for his love of reading and puzzling (coffee always at hand), avid following of current events, his strong Catholic faith and most of all, his devotion to his wife and children. He was a loving husband and father, and we will so miss his wise counsel, quiet steady support and enduring love. Our solace at this sad time is that he is together again with the love of his life; he missed our mother so. Prayers will be said on Thursday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vital Parish Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. (at Manahan) with Rev. Dr. Patrick A. Morand as the Celebrant. Thomson In the ParK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
