ALAN DELAINE It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and papa after a lengthy battle with cancer on Monday, June 22, 2009 at Stonewall Hospital at the age of 64 years. Al (Big Al) is lovingly remembered by his devoted family, wife Helen, sons Rick (Krista) and Kevin (Lindsay); grandchildren Kade, Cole and Ashlyn and his faithful dog Sadie who visited him in the hospital. He is survived by his brothers Melvin, Paul, Nelson, Dennis and Rod; sisters Georgette and Mary-ann and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Stanley and mother Mary. Big Al worked many years at Delro and Canadian Bronze, then later opening his own business, Wescan Electro Build. He helped many people make it through the winter months providing snowmobile parts and service on many different makes and models of sleds. He was an enthusiastic member of the Snowstompers Snowmobile Club and enjoyed participating in many runs. Big Al was very active in many forms of racing. He started drag racing at Bison Dragways in the 1960's and he raced stockcars at Brooklands Speedway and Winnipeg Speedway for many years; later hanging up his keys and taking to the pits when both sons began racing. Big Al could never have been happier than when his son Rick won the Modified Championship in 1999 and also winning the Championship twice in Greenbush, Minnesota in 2007 and 2008 and his other son Kevin winning the Stockcar Enduro Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. Big Al loved Nascar and you could always find him watching the race every Sunday. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Rev. Father Gerald Langevin will officiate. The family would like to express their thanks to those who were able to visit Big Al over the months in the hospital and to all the hospital staff in Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
