PHYLLIS DOREEN HAWRYLIUK (nee MYKETA) Peacefully on June 18, 2009, Phyllis lost her long battle with cancer with her only daughter Yvonne at her side. Besides her daughter, Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Mary (Mykola) Mys of Hamilton, her mother-in-law Anna Hawryliuk and sister-in-law Olesia (Nestor and Family) Kalinowich of Dauphin. She will be missed by many cousins, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bob and her parents George and Madge Myketa. Phyllis was born at home in Hamilton, ON on July 7, 1939. She was educated in Hamilton and went to Parks Business School (Commerce). She worked for Canadian Drawn Steel Co, Motorways, CIP Daxon, and Oseredok. Yvonne and Phyllis started their own business, Ivanna Creations. Phyllis was active with the Ukrainian community in Hamilton and Winnipeg, including UNYF, Chaika, UNF, and O. Koshetz Choir. Sewing, gardening, cooking, embroidery, Ukrainian dance, skiing, and travel were her passions. She remained very active up to her passing as a member of UNF St. Boniface, UNF St. Boniface Foundation, Orlan, Ukraine Kyiv Pavilion, Vesna, KYK, Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Council, and others. In 2002, she was honoured to be selected by the Ukrainian community as Ambassador at Folklorama. Phyllis loved to travel (South America, Europe, Orient, Ukraine, Caribbean and North America) and spent summers at Camp Rusalka. Prayers will be sung by Hoosli and O. Koshetz Choirs at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral (115 McGregor St). Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ivas Babick, John Kozelko, Nicolas Kozelko, Martin Pasieczka, Brad Richliwski, and Gerry Senkow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis' memory to either the UNF St. Boniface Foundation or the Taras Shevchenko Foundation. A special thanks to Dr. Babick for his friendship and support. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at HSC CancerCare, ER and SICU. We are grateful to family and friends for their support.
