MARIETTA MEHAFFEY Suddenly, following a brief illness, Marietta Mehaffey passed away at the Grace Hospital on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the age of 81 years. The Lord called our beloved Mother, Grandma and Granny to be by His side. Remaining to forever cherish Marietta's memory are her children and their spouses Marguerite (Wallace), Emile (Glenda), Suzanne (Rick), Annette (Danny), Gisele (Glen) as well as 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Leopold and Zulma Keppens. Marietta was born July 4, 1927 in Ghent, Belgium and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946. Mom was a feisty and very social woman who had a zest for life as well as a deep and abiding faith. Although mom had many hobbies, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the time of her passing she was President of the Westwood Social Club in her apartment block and enjoyed the many friends she met there. For many years she was also very involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary serving as President, a position that took her to various provinces for annual meetings and conventions. Mom dearly loved her bingos as well as the monthly trips to either Club Regent or McPhillips Street Station and the occasional trip to South Beach Casino. We enjoyed teasing her about her gambling problem. Mom also loved to knit and with the wool provided by Winnipeg Harvest, she knit countless sweaters, scarves and mittens for the underprivileged. Another great past time of hers was reading and she was also a gifted seamstress in her younger years. Marietta's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in The Bridge Church, 620 Oxbow Bend Road (South West corner of Portage Avenue and the Perimeter Hwy), with Rev. Dr. Brian Brglez, presider. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB or Siloam Mission, 300 Princess, Winnipeg, MB. Psalm 23 The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want He maketh me to lie down in green pastures He leadeth me beside still waters, he restoreth my soul He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his namesake Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I fear no evil, for thou art with me Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
