Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD BRUCE GRANT Peacefully on June 13, 2009 Don passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 71. Don was born April 27, 1938 in Winnipeg, growing up and receiving his education in the Fort Rouge area. During his teen years Don took up speed skating (winning Manitoba Junior Boys in 1953). At this time he also took up the accordion playing at concerts and restaurants to earn spending money. Don loved to play for friends and family up until the accordion became too heavy for him to play. Don worked at many jobs before becoming a mechanic. His career started at a North End Esso and ended at Holiday Chev Olds. While working at the Esso station, Don met Linda and they were married on August 11, 1973. They decided to make the Crestview area their home. They were blessed with the arrival of Jeffrey Gordon (Jeff) in 1974 and Thomas Edward (Tom) in 1980. As the boys got older Don became involved in their baseball (Assiniboia West) serving as an assistant or head coach for both. Don also got involved with the 1st St. Charles Group (1983-1991) becoming BALOO and worked up to becoming AKELA. These were happy times for Don. Don was also very proud and pleased when Jeff married Angie and they made him a Grandpa in March 2007 to Rowan Paige (his little princess). Angie's son Darion was also a welcome addition to the family. Don had suffered with Crohn's, later cancer, but he never let it get him down. He never complained but always put his best effort into everything he did. He is going to be missed by family and friends. At this time we would like to say thank you to the staff on 3 North at the Grace for the care of Don. Also thank you to the Home Care nurses and Fred Gunzel for all your help and care in the last year. Don is survived by his wife Linda (McNeil) of 35 years; son Tom of Winnipeg, son Jeff (Angie), granddaughter Rowan and step-grandson Darion of Calgary; brother Ben (Shirley) and family of Toronto; brothers-in-law Bob McMillan and family of Montreal, Bob McNeil of Vancouver. Predeceased by parents, sister Helen McMillan and Linda's parents. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, Box 88 STN Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 0T5. A memorial reception will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
