ELINOR HEIMAN Peacefully on June 28, 2009 Mrs. Elinor Heiman died at Grace Hospital with her children at her side. Predeceased by her husband Les in 1998 and brothers Vaughn and Ray. She is survived by her son Barrie (Irene) Heiman and daughter Norma Pettifer (Vancouver); grandsons Clayton Pettifer (Vancouver) and Mathew Heiman (London, England); brother Gerald Clayton, sister Eileen Vincent and many nephews and nieces. Elinor was born in Gladstone, Manitoba. Her parents, Reginald and Norma Clayton, were pioneers of the district. She married Les in 1937. Together they owned and operated The Smart Shop Clothing Store from 1947 until 1979 when they moved to Winnipeg. Elinor participated in Gladstone community activities. She was a member of the United Church Choir and the Local Legion. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She was noted for her beautiful needlework. Elinor was a mystery fan and read many books each week. Elinor and Les took numerous trips to the United States and in retirement spent winters in Arizona. She was a passionate bingo player and continued to patronize the casino as a 95 year old. Elinor Heiman was a remarkable and energetic woman. The family would like to extend thanks to Nonie at Home Care, Melanie Adams and Alice Yaschyshyn for care and friendship. In accordance with Elinor's wishes, no formal service will be held and the family respectfully declines tributes.
