Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET JOAN STRANGE June 12,1919 to June 26, 2009 Margaret Joan Strange, nee Cattley, beloved wife of the late Jack Strange, died Friday at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. Predeceased by her parents, John H. Cattley and Flora E. Donkin; siblings Tom, Enid, Jack, and in childhood by Evelyn E. and Helen F. Survived by son Douglas, daughter-in-law Linda, daughter Barbara, cousin Marion Riley, sister in law Pamela Cattley of Kent, and our extended family of English cousins. She was a North End girl from Cathedral Avenue who met a North End boy, and they shared many an adventure during 55 years together. Mother was a most generous and warm person with a wonderful sense of humour. She could be the life of the party- no problem! Earlier in life, Mother worked at Eatons and at the Milk Board before joining the Canadian Red Cross, where she enjoyed 40 years of service, retiring in 1991. Longtime friendships were formed and lunches shared long after the working years were really enjoyed by Mother. Oxford Street was Mother's home for 57 years. The 50's and 60's were the child-raising years, which didn't preclude having a few parties with good friends and neighbours. This era originated the May 24th fireworks parties that continued until the 1990's. The 70's and 80's were a time of lots of traveling, especially to England. The 90's were a quieter time, but the constant throughout all the years was the many wonderful neighbours, old and new, that Mother and Father enjoyed. The warmth, love and friendship produced many wonderful memories. West-side Bomber season tickets for over 35 years were a delight for them. From Ken Ploen to the present, Mother was a great fan. Her DE-FENCE was as loud as anyone's. Mother was also a nervous fan. In her later years, if the Bombers were on T.V. in a close game, she would turn off the game in the last quarter and await Douglas' phone call with the final result. Mother and Father had a great love of owning and being in the horse community. Coffee at the track and visiting numerous horse farms enhanced their life for more than 15 years. Alphabet Farm and Dr. Pip's family were very special to her. Many thanks to the Wellington staff for their amazing commitment to Mother's well-being and care. She loved life there, and was a champion UNO and bingo player. To the many Nurses and caregivers who assisted Mother in her four plus hospital tour over the past four months - we thank you for your care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Thottingal, Mom's family Physician. Dr. Thottingal and Mother had a high regard for one another. Mom had great faith in Dr. T's doctoring abilities, and he had great faith in her resilience. They were both correct. We will miss her greatly. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and a private interment at St. John's Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society or a charity of your choice in Mother's honour would be appreciated.
