MITCHELL (MITCH) WOJNA August 13, 1922-June 25, 2009 After a brief illness and surrounded by his family, Mitch passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. Mitch was born in Wolosow, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1933. He received his early education in Poland and then attended Aberdeen School in Winnipeg's North End. He joined the army in 1943 and served as a dispatch trooper overseas in England and Holland, and was discharged to Winnipeg in 1946. Mitch had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family, worked many jobs, was a jack-of-all-trades, worked at CN Transcona Shops for 29.5 years and retired on disability in 1980. Mitch attended the Anglican Church. He kept in touch with fellow CN machinists and St. John's Ambulance colleagues, and he was very dedicated to his family and was involved with his grandchildren's activities and sports. He loved his lake, was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. Mitch was predeceased by his mother and infant brother (in Poland), his father Dominic and stepmother Natalia. Remaining to cherish his memory are Mary, his wife of almost 60 years; his daughters, Heather (Richard), Lisa (Garry), Michelle (Brad); his eight grand-children, Shawna, Aurora, Jason, Tammy, Peter, Melissa, Matthew, Nathan; six great-grandchildren, Wade, Hunter, Jada, Rhianna, Seth, Brooklyn and a large extended family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Mitch's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with The Rev. Dr. Brad Elliot officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. P.G. Mehta and Dr. Garcia and all the staff on 6AS St. Boniface Hospital, especially Lucien. Thank you. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
